Assam: Government following no revenue, no bridge policy, alleges citizens

GUWAHATI : The villagers of Tinsukia  district in upper Assam near Doomdooma Town in Beesakopie  village questioned the BJP ruled Assam government that ,”Is the government following, ” No Revenue, No Bridge “policy?

Talking to OurIndia, Rajen Bag, a former ward member, said, “Look, the bridge was broken down in 2019 but still the steps were not taken to make a new bridge. At the same time a bridge was broken in Dighaltarang-Baghjan route from Doomdooma, that is being constructed but ours are neglected. “

The Doomdooma-Baghjan link road  is used basically for carrying OIL vehicles and tea leaves vehicles which is profitable for the government.

“This bridge is also of much importance. It connects Beesakopie Central Hospital and many villages of nearby and thousands of people use it day and night to take patients. There is a Lower Primary School in which children go through this bridge. The tea garden workers use it. But now as it is risky, less people walk on it and catch a long way to go to hospital, school and gardens,” Bag asserted.

Afraid of heavy rainfall in monsoon season this year, they’re planning to make a bamboo bridge besides it as there is no help from government.

Tinsukia is 500 kilometers from the capital Guwahati and the bridge is 25 kilometers from Tinsukia. It is around 3 kilometers from Doomdooma Revenue Circle.

Now very few people take risk every single day by walking over this dilapidated bridge, the only route connecting to the other side in a quick way.

Students, villagers, patients and garden workers embark on this dangerous journey over the dilapidated RCC bridge to reach early to their destination.

“Ambulances and emergency services cannot move over the bridge due to its broken condition and narrow roads .The government can provide a great help by making the road wider and a larger new bridge,” villagers said .

It connects Beesakopie line number 2,9,10,25,50 , and Ethengia Basti villages.

Thousands of people, including school children, garden officer and employees, small businessmen used to travel every day over this bridge but now they fear as its dilapidated conditions may cause untoward incident.

Despite continues requests to the local MLA and panchayat representative of Doomdooma constituency to replace the wooden bridge with a pucca bridge, no change has been seen in so many years, the villagers claimed.

The reluctance of the government has angered the people of villages yet again they are in the mood of self help by making a bamboo bridge along with the broken bridge.
