Guwahati: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma who was a former member of Indian National Congress and joined Bharatiya Janata Party on August 23, 2015 paid rich tribute to Pamulparthi Venkata Narasimha Rao on Wednesday morning.
Taking to tweeter, Sarama wrote, “Former PM PV Narasimha Rao Ji, an exceptional scholar and accomplished administrator, led our nation through formidable challenges. Under his guidance, I preserved in serving my constituency despite facing initial election defeat. Paying heartfelt tributes on his Jayanti. “
Rao was born on 28 June 1921 and passed away on 23 December 2004, popularly known as P.V.Narasimha Rao , was an Indian lawyer, statesman and politician who served as the 9th prime minister of India from 1991 to 1996.
He is known for introducing various liberal reforms in India’s economy. His ascendancy to the prime ministership was politically significant because he was the second holder of this office from a non-Hindi-speaking region and the first from south India in United Andhra Pradesh.
He led an important administration, overseeing a major economic transformation and several home incidents affecting national security of India. Rao, who held the Industries portfolio, was personally responsible for the dismantling of the License Raj, as this came under the purview of the Ministry of Commerce.
Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is a five time member from Jalukbari constituency since 2001.
Rich tributes are being paid to Rao on Wednesday in Assam and across North East.
