Unseasonal Rain Havoc Disrupts Power Supply Across Pune & Pimpri-Chinchwad; Restoration Work In Full Swing

Posted on April 2, 2026 By NewsX 360 No Comments on Unseasonal Rain Havoc Disrupts Power Supply Across Pune & Pimpri-Chinchwad; Restoration Work In Full Swing

Pune: Heavy unseasonal rain, along with lightning and strong winds, disrupted power supply in several parts of Pune on Thursday afternoon. The sudden downpour led to multiple faults in power lines, affecting electricity in many areas for a short period.

According to Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL), several Extra High Voltage (EHV) and High Voltage (HV) lines tripped due to the weather.

Trees fell on power lines at many places, while waterlogging and lightning caused further damage to electrical systems.

In Kothrud, lightning damaged the surge protection system on the Kundanagari feeder, leading to a temporary blackout. However, supply was restored through an alternate route, and only a few transformers remain affected. Power supply was also disrupted briefly due to tripping on the Nanded City EHV line but resumed soon after.

In the Shivajinagar division, areas like Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), Khadki, Bavdhan, Baner, and Shivaji Housing Society faced outages. Officials said restoration work was carried out quickly, and supply on key lines has been resumed.

In Pimpri and Bhosari, the Ravet 22 KV line was shut down, affecting several transformers. Teams are working to restore supply through alternate arrangements. In Parvati, a fallen tree damaged a feeder, while waterlogging affected feeder boxes in nearby areas.

Power cuts were also reported in Bund Garden and Rasta Peth due to fallen branches and EHV line faults.

MSEDCL officials said teams are working on a war footing, and supply has already been restored in many areas. Citizens have been asked to remain patient and report issues through helpline numbers as restoration continues.
