Police said on Monday after reviewing footage from CCTV cameras placed near the home that two men were seen leaving the Dum Dum home of the 62-year-old woman who passed away on Sunday after receiving a severe injury to her forehead.

After hearing Moon Moon Pal, 62, cry, neighbours and family members ran to her Mordecai Lane house and saw her lying in a pool of blood. She passed away later in a nursing facility in Nagerbazar.

The two guys were seen by CCTV cameras leaving the property just before the victim was discovered seriously hurt, according to the police, who claimed they were attempting to identify them.

According to a senior officer of the Barrackpore commissionerate, Pal’s forehead wound was inflicted by a sharp instrument, according to the preliminary post-mortem report.

Family members have stated that they believe a gardener who had been employed by Pal for a few days was responsible for the tragedy. Two gold bangles that the victim routinely wore have been reported missing, they have informed us. The officer said that nothing else in the house appeared to have been tampered with.

The officer said they had received footage from CCTV cameras at two places — one put on a light post a few metres from the house and another at the crossroads of Mordecai Lane and Dum Dum Road.

The officer stated, “The film shows two individuals leaving the residence a short while before neighbours ran in and discovered Pal laying in a pool of blood.”

A man who received a call on the number given to the Pals by the gardener was questioned by authorities from the Nagerbazar police station until late on Sunday.

The man reportedly admitted to lending the gardener’s phone to him out of compassion after learning that the man had been out of work for a while and was unable to afford a cell phone.

A senior commissionerate officer added, “We are verifying his claims.

According to a different cop, the film led them to activate their sources.

The victim’s oldest daughter, Monikonkon Pal, arrived in the city on Monday afternoon from Pune, where she resides with her family. She claimed that when her mother’s injuries were discovered, her father Ashim Pal, a retired Indian Revenue Service officer, was at home but was upstairs and did not hear any commotion.

The daughter added, “We’ve learned that the gardener got engaged a few days ago.

The youngest daughter of the marriage, Monikuntala Pal, stays in Australia.
