Political gaffe in reenactment of Haldia port row

Posted on November 17, 2022 By No Comments on Political gaffe in reenactment of Haldia port row

Four days after a comparable event at berth 13, Trinamul-affiliated INTTUC workers allegedly stopped unloading from a ship carrying manganese at berth 9 of the Haldia dock complex.

Crane operators were allegedly chased off the ship by Trinamul employees who insisted that their agency be employed despite an existing tender that identified another firm, forcing the operators to leave the ship.

Workers unloading a shipment from a moving vehicle Almeria was forced to depart with CISF protection when allegedly 200 or more employees loyal to INTTUC protested Five Star Logistics Pvt Ltd, the company that won the bid for the assignment.

According to sources, M.K. The loading and unloading of cargo by Shipping & Chartering Co. and Five Star Logistics Pvt Ltd at berths 13 and 9, respectively, is said to have irritated INTTUC-affiliated workers. Both of these businesses are a part of the Five Star Group.

Sources from the port complex claim that Trinamul workers formed a new company in July and asked that all loading and unloading jobs be outsourced to it.

A port officer explained, “Five Star Group did not agree, so it was not allowed to offload goods at berth 9 on Wednesday.
A source from the Haldia dock complex claimed that despite berth 13 being empty, a few ships were waiting to enter the port due to “fear of the Trinamul union.”
On Wednesday, a director of Five Star Logistics sent a letter to the deputy chairman of the Calcutta Port Trust, Haldia Dock Complex, stating that his business “needed” CISF action to get his employees to safety.
Capt. Asraf Shaikh requested a “safe and conducive working environment” and highlighted the contract between the port and his company.
Shibnath Sarkar, district chief of the INTTUC, stated: “There is a dispute between two contractors.
To blame Trinamul would be incorrect. However, a top dock official claimed that workers from the ruling party were posing significant obstacles.
