GUWAHATI : Once regarded as luxury is now the necessity of the people of Assam .

Thanks to the illegal timber mafias and industrialists of the state due to the duo the forests are being destroyed and pollution in the air and water is being multiplied.

The result is the rising temperature of the state which brings a good business for Cold drinks, aqua and ice cream.

“It had been raining day and night in the state till 90s. The temperature was quite normal. Hand made fan and cold water from tube well was enough to fight with summer. But now everything changed,” Ramanuj Phukan,69,a cold drinks business man told Our India.

“Electricity is now available even in the remotest areas of Assam and cold drinks, ice cream and bottled water has a good business. Once the luxury is now the necessity of the lifestyle of people here,” Phukan added.

Not only this, Fan , AC , freeze and cooler too are now high sale .

Remarkably, Assam schools start early amid soaring heat this week.

In the wake of rising temperatures, some districts in Assam have advanced the school timing and rescheduled the classes of all educational institutions from 7.30 am.

The District Deputy Commissioners of Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Kamrup (Metro) and other districts of Assam have issued instructions to educational institutions to reschedule classes.

According to the official notice, “The school timing for LP Schools is from 7:30 am till 12 noon. For ME schools, the classes are scheduled to start from 7:30 am till 12:30 pm and the classes for the HS schools will start from 7:30 am and continue till 1:00 pm…”

As per the notification, the timings have been changed in the interest of public wellbeing due to continuous rise of mercury levels.
