Guwahati: Assam based Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) is eyeing to export hydrocarbon products in Bangladesh and Nepal in bigger scale and planning to enter Myanmar once the situation in the country improves.
In Myanmar NRL plans to set up retail outlets.
Talking to reporters in Guwahati, Chairman and Managing Director of NRL, Bhaskar Jyoti Phukan said, “We have already penetrated into Bangladesh. We have a 130 KM Indo-Bangla Friendship Pipeline (IBFPL) from Siliguri to Parbatipur in Bangladesh which is a major consumption centre in Northern Bangladesh”.
Phukan said, “We have told Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) we can be their major supplier in Northern Bangladesh. This is the strategy we have adopted. We had a fruitful discussion with them. They have seen how our capacity to execute projects inside Bangladesh. They are very keen to collaborate with us. Once you have a pipeline there is surety of supply.”
“If one sees the geography of Bangladesh, Northern sides are a little bit inaccessible from the Southern side, they lack too many river crossings in terms of having bridges. Northern side has agro based industries and they need petroleum products in the peak of winter. This is the time when river draft is low and Bangladesh typically transports petroleum products through the river. They found the collaboration interesting. We have given a detailed plan to them and can supply diesel to Northern areas including Sylhet. We can have a major pie in this market,” Phukan stated.
Numaligarh Refinery in the past have exported through roads directly from Numaligarh to Moreh travelling roughly 421km.
