GUWAHATI : An elderly woman spent the entire night with her injured cow on National Highway-52 in Tinsukia district of upper Assam.

“During dusk when Bogi ( cow’s name) did not return to her cowshed as she usually do, I was out in her search. I found her sitting on the roadside late evening. There was bleeding from her back parts . A speedy vehicle had hit her badly,” Saraswati Kondo, 56,a widow told OurIndia.

“My son immediately called a veterinarian and the doctor administered three injections to her sooner rather than later. But as there is no vehicle for carrying injured animals in Veterinary Dispensaries, it was difficult to get a private vehicle at night. So I decided to stay with her during night. How can I live her alone,” Saraswati added .

Meanwhile the people of the vicinity has started praising her, realizing her love towards animals.

“Her house is around two kilometers away from the accident place at Mankhowa 15 number line. People know her as God-fearing, animal welfare thinker. She feeds stray dogs and cats also,” Ranjeeta Nayak, a local resident said.

Talking to this correspondent, Saraswati says that Bogi is the oldest member of her family. Her mother died fifteen years before. Till now three male and two female calves she has given birth and pregnant of two months.

Stray animals can be sighted on National Highways of the state. But due to scarcity of grazing fields, sometime domestic animals too come on the road and get accident.

“An awareness of traffic rules is necessary,” Sanjog, a local resident said.

Meanwhile, in the early morning, Bogi was taken to home by a vehicle. The whole family is taking care of her . The doctor has advised to take special care of her as her bones have been broken.

Oftenly accidents occur on this road due to speeding vehicles. It connects Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
