GUWAHATI: JAN 30: The state cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma held in Dibrugarh on Monday took the decision to set up a Chief Minister’s secretariat office in Dibrugarh and a Raj Bhavan in Tezpur in addition to the existing ones in Dispur.

This was among the slews of decisions taken during the cabinet meeting held at the deputy commissioner’s conference hall. Announcing the decision at the conclusion of the cabinet meeting, the Chief Minister said, “A permanent CM’s Secretariat office will be set up in Dibrugarh. The CM’s secretariat which is now functioning from Dispur will also operate from Dibrugarh.

The Chief Minister will have to sit in the new secretariat twice or thrice a month. Moreover a new Raj Bhavan will also come up in Tezpur.

A mini secretariat is already coming up in Barak Valley. We all know that Dibrugarh is an economic hub while Tezpur is a cultural hub. The decision will immensely benefit the people.”

The Chief Minister further said that a state floriculture mission will be implemented in Assam to harness the vast flower market of the state. “There is a huge demand for flowers in the state. Now we have to buy flowers from Kolkata markets or it has to be imported from Thailand. We will involve 20,000 farmers in our state horticulture mission. An amount of Rs 150 crore will be spent in the first phase for the mission,” the CM said.

He also announced that an amount of Rs 300 crore will be spent on the MOITRI scheme for the improvement of police station and police infrastructures.

Sarma also announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Guwahati on April 14 during Rongali Bihu where 10,000 to 15,000 Bihu dancers will showcase Bihu dance together and make a bid for the Guiness Books of Records. Further the Pandu Port will be connected to the NH-27 by an approach road that will be constructed at a cost of Rs 153.04 crore.

The Chief Minister further said that Assam will invest in 20 per cent share in a thermal power project in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghatampur at a cost of Rs 1,000 crore. The state will get 400 MW of electricity in exchange.

The cabinet also took the decision to change the nomenclature of some posts in the.l deputy commissioner’s office establishment. The nomenclature of Junior Assistant was changed to Junior District Administration Assistant, Senior Assistant to Senior District Administration Assistant, Head Assistant to District Administration Head Assistant and Supervisory Assistant to District Supervisory Head Assistant. Moreover the cabinet decided to convert the employment exchanges of the state to youth welfare offices as employment exchanges have become “redundant” due to online registration of job seekers.

For Dibrugarh district the cabinet took the decision to construct a 8-storied staff quarters at the Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH), a state-of-the-art convention centre, upgradation of Khanikar outdoor stadium sitting capacity from 5,000 to 15,000, state police sports centre at Dibrugarh police reserve playground, flood lighting of Chowkidinghee playground, construction of a hockey stadium at Naharkatia, 5 new bridges, construction of two major roads and renovation of Mahatma Gandhi Park at Khanikar and Laxminath Bezbaruah Park at Phoolbagan at a cost of Rs 5 crore each. The shifting of Dibrugarh central jail to Tingkhong area was also taken during the cabinet meeting. The present Dibrugarh central jail will be converted to a cultural center after the shifting to the new site which will take three years time. Moreover two new post graduate courses in applied psychology and geography will be introduced in Dibrugarh University.

After the conclusion of the cabinet meeting the Chief Minister inaugurated a slew of projects in Dibrugarh town including a foot overbridge with escalator in front of Dibrugarh University, a building of the Dibrugarh Development Authority and an Allen Career Coaching Centre at Phoolbagan, a Tai Educational and Cultural Centre at Boiragimoth and a guest house of the water resources department at Maijan.
