Al-Qaeda agent detained in J&K; family of suspect in Howrah unaware of affiliation with terror group

Posted on November 9, 2022 By No Comments on Al-Qaeda agent detained in J&K; family of suspect in Howrah unaware of affiliation with terror group

The family of Amiruddin Khan, a suspected al-Qaeda member who was detained in the Ramban district of Jammu & Kashmir the previous day, stated on Tuesday that they had no clue of his affiliation with any terrorist organisation.

Amiruddin’s family from Masila hamlet in Howrah (Rural) district’s Sankrail was shocked to learn about the news. Amiruddin has been residing in Kashmir since 2007.

Amiruddin was detained by the police armed with guns, and indications indicate he was actively working for the terror organisation while posing as an employee of a clothing company.

The accused’s brother, Azharuddin Khan, stated, “Amiruddin is the youngest of our five brothers and two sisters. He was an intelligent student who attended a madrasa in Uttar Pradesh. He had a teaching career in Kashmir and worked in the clothing industry. The clothing he received was from Sankrail.

He remarked, “He was here for Eid this year.
We think it absurd that he has been accused of having connections to al-Qaida.

Amiruddin has proceedings pending under Sections 7 and 25 of the Arms Act, Section 4 of the Explosives Act, and Sections 13 and 20 of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).

The Special Task Force (STF) of the Kolkata Police has apprehended eight state residents over the course of the last four months on suspicion of having connections to terrorist organisations.
Maniruddin Khan, a third-year student at a college in Barasat, was arrested on November 5 in Mathurapur, South 24 Parganas district, on similar accusations.

According to the police, individuals detained disseminated anti-national comments on social media and were active users.

“They were utilising social media to find more participants for their programme. They would target young people, the majority of whom lacked stable employment, according to one official.

According to reports, Maniruddin would also set up phoney Indian identification documents, cellphone SIM cards, and other forms of assistance for persons crossing the border.
Additionally, Tapan Saha, a known arms dealer, was apprehended by the West Bengal Police’s Special Task Force at the Dum Dum Cantonment train station.

Agnimitra Paul, a BJP MLA, made fun of the governing Trinamool Congress (TMC) by stating, “Some guns were recovered today. Earlier, the STF detained suspected extremists. Bengal has become a refuge for terrorist groups from all over the world. They get here, remain, and then organise terrorist attacks across India. The TMC administration has given its blessing to terrorists, according to them.

The BJP, meanwhile, was accused of attempting to politicise the issue by the TMC.
