The Bhiwandi City police arrested two men and detained one minor girl who allegedly circulated an obscene video of a 17-year-old girl on social media in Bhiwandi. The two male accused are aged 20 to 25, and one minor girl, all residents of Bhiwandi.
The incident took place in a lodge on December 29, 2024, when a 22-year-old accused, who is a boyfriend of the victim, allegedly raped her without her consent, as per the FIR.
The victim stated in the complaint that she was allegedly raped by a boyfriend who recorded a nude video of her in the lodge. Subsequently, the accused circulated the video to two friends, including a female. The same video was circulated through a WhatsApp group and Facebook, which defamed the victim.
The police said that the victim learned her video. She was frightened, and she informed her parents about it. Subsequently, the victim, along with her parents, approached the police station and filed a police report against them. According to the police, the accused and the victim had a romantic relationship just two months ago.
The accused and the victim went to a lodge when the rape incident occurred, and a video was recorded by the accused.A case was registered against them under the relevant section 66(B) of the Information Technology Act and under the relevant sections of 64, 356(2), 351(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nayay Sanhita and relevant sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
Krishna Kharat, Senior Police Inspector from the Bhiwandi City Police Station, said, “We immediately registered an FIR as the victim approached us. We arrested two male accused and detained one minor girl from Bhiwandi. The two were produced in court and remanded in police custody for further investigation, while the minor girl was presented before the Juvenile Justice Board and sent to the observation home.”
