Question: I am someone who is a first generation entrepreneur. I come from a middle-class background and, very often, I feel that I don’t have the money mindset that entrepreneurs require. I want to ask: is it possible to develop that quality, and if not, how do I build a team where as a business we retain our edge even though I may not have sufficient qualities?
Sadhguru: I do not know what money-minded means exactly. That means in my understanding you are only interested in the consequence, not the process. Those who are only interested in the consequence and not in the process, they will only dream about it, they will not do it.
The most important thing is, an entrepreneur becomes an entrepreneur because he wants to create something that he thinks must happen. If you want to create something, money is a part of it. Without money no activity gets oiled to move properly. So, as an entrepreneur you do not have to have a thought of money in your mind; it is just about wanting to create something. Like there are material managers, you need a money manager. This is also one of the materials to make things happen.
At the end of your life it is only about what you have created. Whatever you have gathered, you cannot take it with you. It is only what you have created that matters. So, it is a great advantage not to think about money.
Question: People say that one person can have many soul mates. I was wondering if there is such a thing as a twin flame for everyone, that you are supposed to spend the rest of your life with?
Sadhguru: The body needs a mate. Maybe if your mind is not well-developed, your mind needs a mate. If your emotions have not become all-inclusive, your emotions need a mate. At least your goddam soul should be free from that hankering! If there is something called “soul”, you are referring to something beyond physicality. If there is something beyond physical, would it need a mate? A mate means a companion. It could be physical, psychological, emotional, at work – a mate comes in only when some sense of incompleteness is there. But whatever you are referring to as soul, at least that one thing should be complete. If it is complete, it does not need a mate.
And you are talking about many soul mates, I don’t know where this came from. I thought the term “soul mate” was coined in high school when you truly wanted to trap somebody, and you always feared they will get away! So you told them, “We are soul mates.” That means we cannot break up. But now you are talking about many soul mates. This is new! I do not know when this evolution happened. Somebody is just talking new language according to the needs of the day!
Question: What is the role of karma yoga in sadhana?
Sadhguru: It is not needed really. Yoga does not need karma. Yoga is to go beyond karma. But why karma yoga has been brought in is just to bring about a balance in a person.
Whatever we call as our awareness, our love, our experience or our glimpses of our reality, if it has to be sustained, the path of non-doing is a very wonderful path, but it is very, very slippery. Extremely slippery. It is the easiest and the most difficult. It is not difficult but it is not at all easy, because it is simple – right now, here and now. But that here and now – how to get it? Whatever you do, it is not in your hands. It is never going to be in your hands. But your hands need something right now, you need to hold something. That is why the crutch of karma yoga.
Karma yoga is the crutch for a spiritual person. Without the crutch, most people will not be able to walk. There are a few beings who can walk without the crutch from the first moment; they are very rare beings. All others need the crutch to walk. The crutch is karma yoga. It is the crutch that you use to manage your awareness. Without this crutch, most people are incapable of remaining aware. So karma yoga is brought into your life to properly temper sadhana with the right kind of action.
