Pune: Union Minister Amit Shah, on Saturday, highlighted the success of the Centre’s Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), announcing that 20 lakh beneficiaries received their sanction letters in a single day, fulfilling their long-cherished dream of owning a home.
Speaking at the event in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, Shah said, “This is a rare occasion where 20 lakh beneficiaries have simultaneously experienced the joy of owning a home.”

He praised the Fadnavis government for its efficient implementation of the scheme, stating, “While schemes often take time to execute, the Fadnavis government has ensured that 20 lakh beneficiaries received homes under PMAY, and 10 lakh beneficiaries have already received the first instalment directly in their bank accounts.”
“Your blessings brought the Mahayuti to power, leading to the formation of the BJP-Shiv Sena-NCP government. By giving a historic mandate, the people of Maharashtra also delivered a clear verdict on which Shiv Sena and which NCP are genuine,” Shah said.
Shah also took the opportunity to criticise Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, recalling his earlier skepticism about the Modi government’s initiatives. “I am reminded of Rahul Gandhi today. When Modiji launched the Jan Dhan Yojana, Rahul baba mocked the scheme, asking what would be deposited into these accounts. Rahul baba, witness Modi’s magic now. With just a click, the first instalment has been seamlessly transferred into the accounts of beneficiaries,” Shah remarked.
The Union minister shared that he was deeply moved when CM Fadnavis informed him about the milestone of 20 lakh beneficiaries receiving sanction letters under PMAY. “I had goosebumps when CM Fadnavis called me with this news,” Shah added, emphasising the transformative impact of the scheme on millions of families.
“If there is one state that has got the maximum number of houses under PMAY, it is Maharashtra. Beyond housing, people are getting access to toilets, solar power and gas cylinders,” he said.
Addressing the concluding ceremony of the diamond jubilee celebrations of Janata Sahakari Bank in Pune, Shah said that the cooperative sector received a boost in the last three years due to efforts of the Modi government and made India’s cooperative sector marketable.
He appealed to the cooperative banking sector to embrace technology.
Shah credited Pune MP and MoS for Cooperation, Murlidhar Mohol, for the establishment of the first regional branch of the Central Register of Cooperative Societies in the city.
Maratha outfit members whisked away
Members of a Maratha outfit on Saturday tried to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Pune over the murder of Massajog sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh but were whisked away by police.
Members of Maratha Kranti Morcha (MKM) reached the venue, a hotel, and were talking to media persons when police whisked them away in a vehicle.
