Navi Mumbai: Vashi Residents Express Concerns Over Poor Maintenance Of Mini Seashore Despite NMMC’s Cleanliness Efforts

Posted on February 8, 2025 By No Comments on Navi Mumbai: Vashi Residents Express Concerns Over Poor Maintenance Of Mini Seashore Despite NMMC’s Cleanliness Efforts

Even as Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has been focussing on cleanliness of the city in huge scale, Vashi residents who are regular at Mini seashore, complain of non maintainance of the area. Mini seashore is the most visited place not just by morning walkers but also by the people for a quick evening getaway.

The residents have expressed concerns over the area’s deteriorating condition due to inadequate maintenance. Issues such as uncleaned holding ponds with floating garbage, drying trees, and overall neglect have been reported. “In 2019, a partial collapse of a metal bridge at the Mini Seashore site led to the suspension of two engineers from the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) for negligence.

But nothing changed even now. The area is dirty and I’ll maintained even now,” Raju Shinde, a former corporator and regular visitor of Mini seashore for morning walks, said.Community efforts have been made to address these challenges. The Mangrove activists, have conducted many cleanup drives in the Vashi area, emphasizing the need for governmental support in environmental conservation.

“First an foremost the pond needs to be cleaned. The pitch needs to be dug more. The losened pavement is another risk in the area. Many people trip over the loose pavement and face minor accidents. The shades made need to be changed and so do the benches. I don’t not remember of any work happening at this place post Covid,” Shinde added.

Prakash Bolia Jain, a jewellery from Vashi who have been a regular at Mini Seashore since 25 years echoes the same thoughts as that of Shinde. “The dirty water and mosquitoes are a threat to us. The concrete surrounding the water body is falling apart. Morning and evening, the area is crowded with people and children and yet the maintanance is neglected. The corporation should take up the beautification of the place at the soonest,” Jain added.
