Navi Mumbai News: Morbe Dam Water Levels Record Significant Low; Authorities Urge Water Conservation Amid Declining Rainfall

Posted on August 10, 2025 By NewsX 360 No Comments on Navi Mumbai News: Morbe Dam Water Levels Record Significant Low; Authorities Urge Water Conservation Amid Declining Rainfall

Navi Mumbai: The Morbe dam’s water levels in Navi Mumbai are notably lower than in previous years. As of August 7, 2024, the dam was only 11.73 percent full, while the previous year recorded a higher level of 12.23 percent. This year’s filling point stands at 81.21 per cent. In comparison to the last two years, this indicates a significant decline in water availability. Consequently, the municipal authorities have urged residents to conserve water as concerns regarding the water supply escalated.

Following Narali Pournima, the intensity of rainfall tends to decrease, prompting the administration to issue warnings about prudent water usage. Although rainfall was satisfactory during June and July, August has seen a significant drop in precipitation, adversely impacting the dam’s water storage.

The Morbe dam has a maximum capacity of 88 meters, but currently, it has only reached 84.27 meters. This reflects a deficit of approximately two meters compared to last year’s level, where it was measured at 86.47 percent full during the same period.

For Navi Mumbai residents, fears concerning water shortages have grown due to the insufficient rainfall experienced in August. However, water availability in the Morbe dam is projected to last until April 21, 2026, though present levels in the Motaye reservoir are also lower than last year. Urging residents to utilize water judiciously, the authorities highlighted that last year, the dam was filled at a more favorable level while the current situation illustrates a decline due to the rainfall slowdown.

Water Levels In Mumbai

Reports from August 10, 2025, indicate varying water levels across several reservoirs, including Upper Vaitarna and Bhatsa. The Upper Vaitarna reservoir, for instance, showed notable changes, with some release activities suspended and others changing due to fluctuating rainfall patterns.

The overall remarks from these reports indicate a trend of decreasing water levels across various reservoirs in the region, compelling continued vigilance and action for residents. Therefore, prudent water management remains critical, given the current climatic and precipitation patterns affecting water levels in Navi Mumbai.
