Northeast Frontier Railway has maintained its upward trajectory in freight unloading performance. During October 2025, a total of 1,035 freight-carrying rakes were unloaded, marking a notable increase of 12.38% compared to 921 rakes handled in the corresponding month of the previous year.
Throughout the month, NFR ensured smooth transportation of a wide range of essential commodities including FCI rice, sugar, salt, edible oil, food grains, fertilizers, cement, coal, vegetables, automobiles, tankers and other goods. These consignments were efficiently unloaded at different goods sheds spread across its jurisdiction.
A substantial share of the freight movement caters to the needs of the northeastern states. In October 2025, Assam alone accounted for the unloading of 560 rakes, including 269 carrying essential commodities. During the same period, 91 rakes were unloaded in Tripura, 21 in Nagaland, 9 in Arunachal Pradesh, 22 in Manipur, 1 in Meghalaya and 11 in Mizoram. Furthermore, within the jurisdiction of N. F. Railway, 170 rakes were unloaded in West Bengal and 150 in Bihar, comprising both essential and non-essential commodities.
The steady movement of essential and other commodities plays a vital role in meeting the daily requirements of the people while supporting and strengthening the region’s economic activities. Continuous supervision at all levels has also contributed to minimizing turnaround time and enhancing overall unloading efficiency.
