IPS officer Sudhakar Pathare died in a road accident in Telangana on Saturday. While travelling from Srisailam to Nagarkurnool, his car met with an accident, and he died on the spot. The vehicle he was travelling in collided with an RTC bus, causing the fatal crash.
At the time of his passing, Sudhakar Pathare was serving as the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) of the Port Zone in the Mumbai Police. He was a 2011-batch IPS officer. The accident occurred in a ghat section, leading to the instant death of both Pathare and his relative, Bhagwat Khodake.
According to the police, Sudhakar Pathare had gone to Hyderabad for training at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy. The accident happened while he was on his way to visit the Jyotirlinga with his relative. The Telangana Police have informed the Mumbai Police about the incident.

Before joining the IPS, Pathare cleared multiple competitive exams. He became a District Special Auditor in 1995 and was selected as a Class 1 Sales Tax Officer in 1996. In 1998, he was appointed as a Deputy Superintendent of Police, marking the beginning of his career in law enforcement.
Throughout his service, he held several key positions, including Deputy Superintendent of Police in Pandharpur, Akluj, Kolhapur city, and Rajura. He also served as Additional Superintendent of Police in Chandrapur and Vasai, and as Superintendent of Police in CID Amravati. Additionally, he worked as Deputy Commissioner of Police in Mumbai, Thane, Pune, Vashi, Navi Mumbai, and Thane city.
SP Dr. Sudhakar Pathare played a significant role in implementing preventive actions against organized crime, including MOCCA, Tadipari, and MPDA. Alongside maintaining law and order, he introduced various initiatives in the police force to enhance efficiency and public safety.
Expressing grief over his demise, Datta Nalawade, DCP (Detection), Crime Branch, Mumbai, stated, “Mumbai Police is deeply saddened by the untimely demise of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Sudhakar Pathare in a tragic road accident in Telangana on Saturday. DCP Pathare was a dedicated officer who served the force with commitment and integrity. His contributions to maintaining law and order in the Mumbai Port Zone and in his earlier assignments are invaluable. His sudden departure leaves a profound void in our ranks.”
