A Mumbai-based non-government organisation has prepared a Gau Raksha Kavach which aims to ensure safety and well-being of cows. The QR code based safety tag will provide medical information about the cow including its vaccination status and will also remind the owner about due vaccination.
Ridlan AI Foundation, the NGO which had earlier developed a QR code based tag to relocate missing stray dogs, has announced a launch of Gau Raksha Kavach for cows. The QR code tag will provide medical information about the cows and will also alert its owner about the animal’s due vaccination and deworming.
On Wednesday, the organisation will officially launch the Gau Raksha Kavach at Sion’s Hari Temple at 9am by tying these tags to the cows. The organisation’s inspiration behind developing these tags was the deadly lumpy skin disease virus which killed thousands of cows in 2022.
The organisation claims that it researched about the cows affected due to the virus and found that lack of vaccination and deworming resulted into increased fatalities. The research led to the need of a database which provides all the medical details about the cow, which led to the development of Gau Raksha Kavach.
The QR tag will be tied in the necks of the cows, which can be scanned to check all the medical details of the animal. Moreover, it will also provide timely reminders to the animal’s owner about the due vaccination and deworming of the singer. The initiative also aims to provide reflective collars for stray cows to save them from road accidents.
The private database will also promote transparency about the care giving received by the cows. Along with medical details, it will hold all the basic details of the animal and also act as a verification about whether the animal owner is not claiming government benefits for the cows by forging documents.
“We noticed that a lot of gaushaalas that we visited during our research for Gau Raksha Kavach, did not maintain any record of their cows’ vaccination or other health status. Our mission is that everybody should be a ‘gau sevak’. We are also trying to connect with schools and colleges so that more people participate in the initiative and start serving the cows,” said an official spokesperson of the NGO.
Ridlan AI Foundation had earlier created a similar QR code based tags to find out children who go missing.
