Mumbai: MRVC Completes 13 Foot Over Bridges & Linkways Under Trespass Control Project; 4 More FOBs Currently Under Construction

Posted on December 23, 2024 By No Comments on Mumbai: MRVC Completes 13 Foot Over Bridges & Linkways Under Trespass Control Project; 4 More FOBs Currently Under Construction

MRVC has completed the work of 13 Foot Over Bridges (FOBs), Linkways, Subways, and Home Platforms under the Trespass Control project this year, with four more FOBs currently under construction, which are likely to be completed before March 2025.

Under the Trace Pass Control project, a total of 28 FOBs (5 on WR and 23 on CR), 2 FOB extensions, 2 linkways, 1 home platform, and 1 subway were planned at 34 locations.

Out of these, 30 locations have already been covered, including the construction of 24 new FOBs, two FOB extensions, two linkways, one subway, and one home platform. Construction work on the foot over bridges at the remaining four locations is underway.

“The construction work of a foot over bridges at Badlapur, a foot over bridge between Badlapur and Vangani, a foot over bridge at Ambernath (Karjat end), and a foot over bridge at Kalwa (Thane end) is underway. MRVC is targeting to complete the work on these foot over bridges before March 2025.” said an official

“These initiatives are designed to curb trespassing, reduce accidents, and improve the overall travel experience for millions of daily commuters in Mumbai,” said an official, adding that the Trespass Control Project of MUTP III is sanctioned at a cost of Rs 551 crore and is now 92% complete. Once finished, the project will mark a significant milestone in improving Mumbai’s railway network and ensuring the safety of its commuters.

“Out of the 13 completed foot over bridges this year, 10 FOBs were built under the Trespass Control Project of MUTP III, while 3 were constructed as part of deposit works by Zonal Railways. Additionally, four more FOBs are under progress, further reinforcing MRVC’s commitment to enhancing safety and infrastructure,” the official said.

MRVC’s comprehensive strategy for controlling trespassing focuses on creating safe, efficient pathways across critical railway sections, mainly between stations. “The newly constructed FOBs seamlessly integrate with the existing railway infrastructure, significantly reducing the risk of accidents. The initiative is in line with MRVC’s broader goal to improve commuter convenience and safety,” the official further added.

In addition to the construction of FOBs, MRVC’s trespass control efforts are also supported by boundary wall construction. Western Railway has completed 10.75 km of boundary wall, while Central Railway has finished 32.914 km. These boundary walls are a key component in securing railway sections and preventing unauthorized access.

Subhash Chand Gupta, Chairman and Managing Director of MRVC, expressed his pride in the project’s progress. “MRVC is committed to ensuring commuter safety through state-of-the-art infrastructure. The new FOBs not only curb trespassing but also enhance the overall travel experience for millions of daily commuters,” he said.
