Mumbai: A prominent Mumbai real estate developer is under the scanner of the Income Tax department probing the financial trail of real life Bunty Babli impersonating as relatives of PK Mishra, the Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The con couple had a fleet of luxury cars including Porsche, Audi, Jaguar and Mercedes collectively valued at over Rs 100 crore.
The taxmen had last week raided 12 locations across Bhubaneswar, Delhi and Jharkhand linked to con couple Hansita Abhilipsa and Anil Mohanty stumbling upon startling transaction of Rs 120 crore between a ‘corporate entity’ and several ‘politically exposed’ persons.
The IT preliminary probe revealed the con couple and three other suspects provided liaison service to the ‘corporate entity’ for business development.
According to senior tax officials, the raids on Hansita, her ex-husband Saroj Kumar Sahoo and Anil spanning three states – Odisha, West Bengal and Jharkhand has led the investigators on the benami financial transactions worth Rs 120 crore between the three accused and the corporate entity having pan-India operations.
“The corporate entity transferred money in the bank accounts of the suspects to execute various deals, both genuine and fake, but later took back a large chunk through cash and other hawala mediums to evade taxes,” disclosed the senior tax official adding that atleast half-a-dozen real estate developers are also under the tax scanner for allegedly assisting Hansita and her associates to evade taxes.
The raids at the couple’s residence and office, revealed a trove of luxury assets, including high-end cars and significant cash reserves. Hansita had gifted a Rs 2. 15 crore Mercedes for Anil on his birthday last month and a Porsche car owner by then was bought with Rs 2.6 crore cash.
After separating from Saroj Sahu, Hansita and Anil had been living in together posing as the daughter and son-in-law of PK Mishra and deceiving individuals and businesses into believing they had high-level connections.
The I-T department has provisionally attached four flats and five luxury vehicles registered in the names of Hansita, Saroj and Anil.
The con couple allegedly made a generous political donation to a prominent person and were initially arrested by Infocity police, Odisha on charges of cheating by posing as kin of PK Mishra, principal secretary at PMO.
