Harvard To Offer Free Tuition For Families Earning Up To $200,000 Starting 2025-26

Harvard: Harvard University has unveiled an expansion of its financial aid program, making it possible for more students from middle-income families to attend the institution.

Tuition-free education for families earning $200,000 or less

According to The Harvard Gazette, starting from the 2025-26 academic year, Harvard College will be completely free for students from families with annual incomes of $100,000 or less. This means paying for every charged expense, including tuition, food, housing, health insurance, and travel.

In addition, students from families with incomes of $200,000 or less will get free tuition, as well as other aid to pay for other charged expenses based on their financial situations.

Increased access to financial aid

The increase is anticipated to advance Harvard College’s commitment to provide all undergraduates the tools they need to enrol and graduate by making financial aid available to about 86% of American families.

“Making Harvard affordable for more people broadens the range of backgrounds, experiences, and viewpoints that all of our students come across, promoting their intellectual and personal development,” Alan M. Garber, president of Harvard University stated in The Harvard Gazette. “We genuinely realise the enormous potential of the University by bringing together individuals with exceptional promise to learn from and with one another.”

Beginning with the establishment of the Harvard Financial Aid Initiative in 2004, the expansion builds on more than 20 years of Harvard’s engagement in undergraduate financial aid. Since then, the amount required to qualify for free housing, food, and tuition has grown fourfold, from $40,000 to $85,000.

The financial aid team at Harvard works closely with families and students to match each family’s unique circumstances and offer individualised support. William R. Fitzsimmons, dean of admissions and financial assistance at Harvard College, stated, “We know the most talented students come from different socioeconomic backgrounds and experiences, from every state and around the globe.”
