Bharuch tribals rally for justice PP Savani university, the blunt times

Bharuch | Gujarat —- Anger is mounting among the tribal community in South Gujarat after the brutal assault of a tribal student at P.P. Savani University near Kosamba in Surat. In a show of strength and unity, tribal leaders and hundreds of supporters organized a massive rally in Bharuch on Thursday, demanding justice and strict action against the accused.

The rally began at the statue of Babasaheb Ambedkar near Bharuch railway station and culminated at the Collector’s office, where a detailed memorandum was submitted. The memorandum alleged that Tanuj Vasava, a student of P.P. Savani University, was beaten by fellow students after they saw his car displaying the word Vasava. The situation escalated further when the same group reportedly assaulted more students in Ankleshwar GIDC.

Leaders Demand Swift Action

Prominent tribal leaders including Mahesh Vasava, Fatesingh Vasava, Dhanraj Vasava, and Anil Bhagat spearheaded the rally. They accused both the police and the college administration of shielding the accused students instead of ensuring justice.

“Violence against our youth will not be tolerated. If the authorities think they can ignore us, they are mistaken. We demand immediate arrest of the accused and strict punishment,” declared Mahesh Vasava while addressing the gathering.

The leaders warned that if the administration failed to act, the community would launch a larger agitation across Bharuch and Surat.

Police Complaint and Allegations of Bias

The tribal community had already lodged a complaint at Ankleshwar GIDC police station. However, in the memorandum, they alleged that the police response was deliberately slow and biased, raising questions about law enforcement’s impartiality.

A community leader added, “If the police and university officials continue to protect the guilty, then the tribals will have no choice but to take their fight to the streets in a bigger way.”
