Guwahati: The upcoming semiconductor based electronic city in Assam’s Jagiroad will be named as Ratan Tata Electronic City.
Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the decision in a press conference on Tuesday afternoon after taking the decision in cabinet, emphasising Ratan Tata’s legacy in transforming industries, promoting innovation, and supporting the socio-economic progress of the state.

The electronic city in Jagiroad is expected to boost Assam’s technology and electronics manufacturing sector, attracting investments from leading companies across India and beyond.
“As a mark of recognition to the tremendous role and contribution of Late Ratan Tata and the Tata Group towards the state’s development, Assam Cabinet has decided to name the upcoming Electronic City in Jagiroad as Ratan Tata Electronic City, Jagiroad, ” Sarma said.
Beside semiconductor unit Ratan Tata ‘s initiative brought relief to the cancer patients of the state through Cancer Care unita across Assam.
Assam’s semiconductor facility by the Tatas in Jagiroad, expected to begin production in 2026, will have a daily output of over 48 million chips, generating 27,000 direct and indirect jobs in the region.
The announcement comes after Assam’s ambitious industrialisation drive, Advantage Assam 2.0, which has secured ₹5.18 lakh crore in investment commitments. Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries pledged ₹50,000 crore to transform Assam into a technology and digital hub. Gautam Adani’s Adani Group committed ₹50,000 crore towards infrastructure, green energy, and industrial development in the region.
