On Saturday night, a Trinamool Congress (TMC) worker was fatally hacked at Banshjor village in the Suri Sadar subdivision of Birbhum district, allegedly by a group associated with a local party strongman.
The event, which caused tension in the neighbourhood, is thought to have resulted from a conflict over control of illicit sand mining. The victim, Sheikh Faizul (20) of Banshjor, and the strongman, Kajal Shah, got into a fight.
According to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Shyam Singh, Kajal Shah and 14 of his cronies were detained in connection with the murder of Faizul. He also noted that a substantial police presence had been deployed to the area to prevent any untoward incidents.
A complaint has been filed under the terms of the Explosive Substance Act as well as sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 302 (murder) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy), according to a police official.
According to the indian express report the villagers, at around nine o’clock in the evening, as Faizul was sitting with his friends close to a graveyard in the hamlet, nearly ten people attacked him with sharp-edged weapons.
His friends then retaliated, and it is alleged that the two factions even exchanged homemade bombs before the attackers fled the scene.
The judge sentenced Kajal Shah and four other defendants to five days of police remand and the other 13 to 14 days of judicial incarceration after the 15 suspects who had been apprehended were brought before the court on Sunday.
Officials claim that Kajal Shah, a former acting president of the Tilpara panchayat samiti of TMC, has a lengthy history of involvement with sand mining that is unlawful.
“The Trinamool will not accept such acts. Everyone claims to be from the Trinamool. Anyone who commits illegal acts cannot be from the party,” the minister said. BJP national vice-president Dilip Ghosh said, “Another murder takes place over control on in the area illegal sand mining. The TMC is a party of hooligans and this stands proved yet again.”
“I told the police that no one should be spared. The culprits must be arrested so that people can live in peace in the area. Also, police have been asked to ensure that sand mining is done legally in the area. I called the ADGP (law and order) in the morning,” Hakim said.
