Union Budget Allocates ₹4,004.31 Crore For Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train, ₹511.48 Crore For MUTP

Posted on February 1, 2025 By No Comments on Union Budget Allocates ₹4,004.31 Crore For Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train, ₹511.48 Crore For MUTP

The Union Budget has allocated ₹4,004.31 crore for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor, commonly known as the Bullet Train project, and ₹511.48 crore for the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP), strengthening railway infrastructure in the Mumbai metropolitan region, Chief minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadanvis posted on X , stating that details information will be provided later.

However, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar provided a different figure for the MUTP .

According to Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar’s post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Maharashtra’s MUTP project has received Rs 1,465.33 crore under budget allocation. When contacted, a senior railway official declined to comment on the issue until the official railway budget details, known as the “pink book,” are released.

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train, India’s first high-speed rail project, is being developed with technical and financial assistance from Japan. The latest budgetary allocation is expected to accelerate land acquisition, viaduct construction, and station development along the corridor.

The Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP), which focuses on improving suburban rail infrastructure, has received a budgetary provision of ₹511.48 crore. This funding will support ongoing projects such as the expansion of railway lines and modernization of stations to enhance passenger convenience and decongest the local train network.

“The investments reflect the government’s continued push to modernize rail infrastructure in Mumbai, ensuring faster and more efficient urban and intercity travel. The allocations are expected to boost employment, improve connectivity, and provide a significant upgrade to Mumbai’s rail network, which serves millions of commuters daily” said an official.

Officials expect these projects to gain further momentum in the coming financial year, bringing Mumbai’s transport system closer to global standards.

However railways activist Mansoor Darvesh, not happy with the budget. “The Budget has disappointed Mumbaikars, as no new facilities have been provided for the suburban railway. Much was expected, but nothing substantial has been announced,” he said .
