Assam: ULFA-I chief Paresh Baruah criticises Khalistan-backed Sikhs for giving threat to CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

Posted on April 3, 2023 By No Comments on Assam: ULFA-I chief Paresh Baruah criticises Khalistan-backed Sikhs for giving threat to CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

Guwahati: In a interesting development, the Paresh Baruah led United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent(ULFA-I) on Monday stated that the threat from Khalistan-backed Sikhs for Justice to Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was unfortunate and misunderstood.

On Monday, ULFA-I mailed a press statement through various medias of Assam.

“United Liberation Front of Asom [Independent]” would like to address the leadership of the pro-independence Khalistan-backed Sikhs for Justice that the alarm you have sent to the Chief Minister of Assam by telephone seems unfortunate and misunderstood, we feel it. This is because in the aftermath of “Operation Bluestar” launched by the occupying forces of the colonial Indian state at the Golden Temple in Amritsar from 1 June to 10 June 1984, a wave of anti-Sikhism spread throughout India. In contrast to the Sikh massacres that occurred in other parts of India, the Tholgiri people of Assam refrained from any mental or physical harassment of the Sikhs living in Assam and the West-South-East Asia [WeSEA] region,” ULFA-I stated in a press statement.

It further added, “There is no example of a Sikh in Assam or West-South-East Asia [WeSEA] being killed or harassed during the brutal killing of Sikhs in the subsequent period of 31 October 1984, when the late Prime Minister of colonial India, Indira Gandhi, was assassinated by her Sikh bodyguard. However, there was a Congress government in both Assam and Delhi at the time. Even the political leaders of Assam at the time abstained from making negative comments against the freedom-loving Sikhs and today is no exception. This is the generosity of the Tholgiri people of Assam and its customs,”.

“Furthermore, there is no room for the brutal torture of the eight members of ‘Khalistan and Waris Punjab De who were recently brought from distant Punjab and imprisoned in Dibrugarh jail and we have not seen any news that is contrary to the customs of the Tholgiri people of Assam. We believe that the situation in Assam will remain similar to the environment of 1984 mentioned above. Therefore, the Tholgiri people of Assam know the history of the Sikhs, love the revolution, and understand the essence of the freedom struggle. For that reason, the leaders of ‘Sikhs for Justice’ are urged to refrain from issuing such undesired remarks and remember the role of the political leaders and people of Assam in that terrible situation of the past” ULFA-I chairman Paresh Baruah stated in the press statement.

The US-based separatist Sikh body-Sikh for Justice (SFJ) has issued a threat to Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma through an audio message.

This threat to Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma was issued by the pro-khalistan group over detention of eight aides of Sikh separatist leader Amritpal Singh at Dibrugarh jail.

The US-based separatist Sikh body – Sikh for Justice (SFJ) dispatched an audio message to several media outlets in Assam, targeting CM Himanta Biswa Sarma.
The audio message was sent on behalf of Gurpatwan Singh Pannu of US-based separatist Sikh body – Sikh for Justice (SFJ).

In the audio message, the pro-Khalistan group alleged that the six aides of Amritpal Singh are being subjected to ‘torture’ at the Dibrugarh jail in Assam.
