DIBRUGARH: Two people went missing after a boat carrying three people capsized in the Dibru River at Chabua in upper Assam Dibrugarh district on Monday.
The missing men have been identified as Binoi Sumar and Bedan Murak.
Another Sultan Maji saved his life my swimming.
According to reports, the three people went to the other side of the river to collect wood on boat from Balijan ghat.
“After gathering the wood, they determined that one of them would stay behind to get more wood, and other two would fetch the wood to the side from which they had come but unfortunately their boat capsized in the Dibru river due to heavy current,” said an official.
After the incident, the locals tried to help but the boat capsized before they could reach the spot.
Meanwhile, SDRF-NDRF has launched search operation but till now they could locate them.
“Due to boat capsized two people missing till now. The boat capsized happened at Balijan when the three youth went for collecting wood from the other side of the river. Among them one of them managed to save his life by swimming. SDRF-NDRF have launched search operation,” said an official of ASDMA.
Last year, four persons crossing the Brahmaputra in a country boat went missing after it capsized in the river in the Rohmoria area of the Dibrugarh.
The four persons still missing are Shiv Shankar Yadav (53), Krishna Yadav (18), Dharmen Das (56) and Thunku Kurmi (40).
